Apple is not deliberately slowing down the old iPhones via software updates. Its just a myth. Apple never did this just so people will be forced to upgrade. 

The latest theory is, it appears that we’re blaming the wrong thing all along. Some experts say that your iPhone’s aging battery might be the one to blame for this problem. 

It’s an open-secret how smartphone that batteries degrade as time goes on. And as it decreases its capacity, the iPhone’s processor also reduces its processor clock speed to maintain battery longevity.

The source posted a picture of his iPhone 6s’ benchmark tests, before and after the battery was replaced. And as it turns out, there was a substantial increase in benchmark score, thanks to the newly installed battery.

It also appears that only the specific version of iPhone 6 and 6s are the only ones who are affected by this, while the iPhone 5s and 7 devices were in the safe zone. The CPU frequency/clock speed of your iPhone 6 or 6s should be around 1400MHz and 1800MHz, respectively. You can check if your smartphone’s processor is reaching those speeds via this app.

Thus, if your iPhone feels like it has been slowing down compared before, you might want to have the battery replaced.
