Intel Core i7-2640M Computer Processor Review

Another powerful CPU processor from Intel Corporation becomes available in the market. The Intel Core i7-2640M dual core processor features a larger L3 cache of 4MB RAM memory. This new Intel processor has a base clock speed of 2.8 GHz with a higher 3.3 GHz clock speed due to TurboBoost Technology. This over clock speed happens whenever 2 cores are active and 3.5 GHz when only 1 core is active.

The Intel Core i7-2640M CPU laptop processor is also based on the Sandy Bridge architecture and features Hyperthreading technology that can handle 4 threads at once for additional performance by up 20%.

Moreover, this new Intel Core i7-2640M also has an improved Turbo 2.0 and an integrated graphics card into the 32nm CPU core. The integrated GPU dubbed Intel HD Graphics 3000 which is fabricated in 32nm technology and shares the fast level 3 cache with the CPU cores. This new integrated GPU is said to be as powerful as the entry level discreet card and therefore can render high definition movies and low resolution games with ease.

Furthermore, an enhanced dual-channel DDR3 RAM controller is contained within the CPU die which is also used by the CPU and GPU part. It has PassMark rating of 4209.
